About
British born, with Irish heritage, I consider myself a mobile European.
I've always been drawn to learning languages, the critical analysis of cinematic works, literature and the arts, so I chose to combine all of these by taking the Communication, Culture and Media Studies bachelor degree at Coventry University. While there, I earned a Distinction for my third year Film Studies dissertation and worked on a number of film projects - crew, casting, production and distribution - for several years thereafter. In 2000, I moved to Paris and was hired as the English Department Secretary at the British Institute/London University. On my return to the UK nearly four years later, I worked as a Multilingual Teaching Assistant and Interpreter at local government agencies and the Coventry Refugee Centre. In 2012, I moved to Berlin, having found employment as a Multilingual Customer Service Agent for an e-commerce design company. By 2015, I had set up my own business, "The Chicken and the Egg Translation and Writing Services". I still live in Berlin, but often like to travel and work from wherever I am. My experience of translating subtitles includes television programmes, documentaries and feature films for ARTE, Netflix, TV 5 Monde, France 3 and independent producers. This often requires "transcreation", in order to keep the humour, timing or cultural references of the original. I also translate for a number of book publishers, including those in the art, fashion and interior design sectors, as well as children's literature. When inspiration takes me, I write poetry and songs. |
